Our Team
Dr. Emilly Obuya is a seasoned STEM educator with over 12 years of experience as an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Russell Sage College, where she also chairs the department. Her commitment to advancing STEM education is evident in her various roles, including serving as an AP Chemistry Consultant for The College Board and an IB Chemistry Examiner for the International Baccalaureate.
Dr. Emilly Obuya is an experienced STEM educator and leader with over 12 years as an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Russell Sage College, where she also serves as the Chair of the Department. Emilly is deeply committed to advancing STEM education, holding multiple roles such as AP Chemistry Consultant for The College Board and IB Chemistry Examiner for the International Baccalaureate.
Her passion for research led her to be selected as a Carnegie African Diaspora Fellow, where she worked on collaborative projects to develop efficient, low-cost water treatment technologies in areas lacking access to municipal facilities. Emilly’s work in environmental chemistry extends to the synthesis and application of nanomaterials, and she has published research in notable journals, including studies on nanofiber catalysts for water purification.
With a Doctorate in Chemistry from Binghamton University, Emilly has taught various chemistry courses and has mentored students at different academic levels. Her expertise is further demonstrated through her role as an AP Reader, her engagement in educational outreach, and her leadership in organizing symposiums as part of the American Chemical Society.
Emilly’s dedication to making STEM education accessible and inclusive, especially for girls and BIPOC students, drives her mission at Be5 STEM Club. Her combination of teaching experience, research excellence, and leadership make her an invaluable guide and role model for the next generation of STEM innovators.
